Radiographer Specialist
Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday
Prepares room, equipment, contrast media, and supplies as necessary for each procedure.
Performs interventional radiographic services accurately and competently using predefined department protocols:
Operates fixed and mobile imaging equipment
Operates ancillary/accessory equipment as necessary
Positions patient and immobilizes patient as necessary
Selects proper exposure/technical factors
Assists physicians with interventional procedures..
Modifies routine procedures and factors as required by patient condition
Processes radiographic films and insures proper identification is present
Practices aseptic techniques as necessary
Performs venipuncture in order to administer contrast media and intravenous fluids under the direction of a physician.
Assists in other areas of department when not performing interventional procedure such as diagnostic radiology, mammography and procedures in other imaging modalities commensurate with training and certification.
Provides patient education to patient and family by providing an explanation of procedure to be performed and radiology processes (acquiring results, wait times, etc.)
Monitors vital signs and observes patient for any changes in status, complications or unusual reactions during procedures.
Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and assists in providing immediate care for life support.
Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of the patient while in radiology.
Experience
A minimum of 1-2 years as radiographer
Education/Licensure
Graduate of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology.
Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist as an ARRT-R.
Must possess a Medical Radiographers license to practice in Nebraska or a Diagnostic Radiographers permit to practice in Iowa.
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire.
Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say Professional Level-with AED, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must possess a strong knowledge of human structure & function, radiographic positioning, selection of exposure factors, and preparation & administration of contrast media for routine and special radiographic procedures.
Proven ability to handle job related stress, must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time. Possess effective written and oral communication skills, manual dexterity, reading skills, team building skills and be people orientated.
