Transportation Aide
Hours: 9:30am-1:30pm Monday-Friday
Performs duties of patient admission, or transfer and/or discharge that do not require the skill, knowledge or judgement of a licensed professional.
Transports patients choosing a mode of transportation appropriate for patients needs, size, age and risk factors.
Identifies each patient following unit procedure.
Determines completeness of the chart prior to transportation and reports any omissions/problems to the Manager or technologist designee.
Promotes safety and prevents injury during patient transfer/transport. (i.e., safety strap, side rails etc.)
Transports patients with known infectious diseases according to established protocol.
Cleans and remakes transport vehicles after each patient use.
Assists with patient lifting as requested.
Seeks assistance when transporting critical, high risk patients.
Respects the patients right to privacy and confidentiality.
Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with alert, sedated and anxious patients, with their families and with other hospital personnel.
Experience
No previous experience required.
Previous experience transporting patients preferred.
Education
Preferred:
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and infection control principles.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics necessary for safe lifting.
Verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Manual dexterity skills.
Good interpersonal relationship skills.
Ability to work under stressful and changing conditions in a calm, productive and flexible manner.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
