Position Description
HDR has been recognized as a national leader and award-winning design firm for major Justice Facilities. We have served federal, state, county and municipal government clients since our founding in 1917.



Due to continued growth, our Dallas office is looking for a Designer to join our team of dedicated justice professionals.

The primary duties include responsibility for the aesthetic solution for large and/or complex correctional projects (jails and prisons). Meets directly with client, analyzes clients problems and conceives and develops architectural solutions commensurate with their needs. Initiates and creates schematic designs and plans with responsibility for the preparation of presentation drawings, models and narratives. Represents the firm and may participate as a key member of corrections and detention business development teams in presentations to prospective clients. Works with the various engineering disciplines throughout the schematic and design development phases to ensure that the solution accommodates the engineering needs and the owners program. May direct the activities of other design professionals, and act as a mentor to other staff members.

10+ years experience in detention/corrections facilities.

Experience in engineering concepts.

AutoCAD experience required.

Knowledge of current trends and experience with large projects.

Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills.

Excellent written and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and manage in a team environment.

Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
