Senior Systems Engineer

Job Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems infrastructure to support our company's operations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of systems architecture, be well-versed in various technologies, and have a proven track record of managing and optimizing IT systems. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Systems Design and Architecture:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and architect scalable and reliable systems solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and cloud services to meet business needs.
  • Develop system architecture blueprints and documentation.

2. Systems Implementation and Maintenance:

  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
  • Ensure system availability, performance, and security through proactive monitoring and regular maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues in a timely manner.

3. Infrastructure Automation:

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline system provisioning, configuration, and management.
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IAC) practices to enhance efficiency and consistency.

4. Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security best practices to safeguard company data and systems.
  • Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and system hardening.
  • Ensure systems comply with industry regulations and standards.

5. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

  • Design and implement robust disaster recovery and backup solutions.
  • Develop and test recovery procedures to minimize downtime in case of system failures.

6. Collaboration and Documentation:

  • Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to understand and address their technical requirements.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems configurations and procedures.

7. Mentoring and Leadership:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior systems engineers.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.

Qualifications:

Please note, for this position,we are only entertaining candidates who do not require sponsorshipand are already local to the Omaha, Nebraska area.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of proven experience as a Systems Engineer or a related role
  • 2 years of experience with Azure management,IaaS and PaaS solutions, and public cloud offerings
  • Strong expertise in system design, implementation, and administration
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows server environments
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V)
  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Ansible)
  • General knowledge of networking (LAN, WAN, VLAN, Routing, Firewalls, etc.)
  • Proven experience with monitoring tools and techniques to proactively identify and resolve issues, thereby enhancing system uptime and reliability
  • Expertise in backup solutions and disaster recovery planning
  • Knowledge of network protocols, security principles, and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills especially with traditional applications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities
  • Must be able to accommodate 24 hour on call escalation schedule
  • A solid understanding of project management principles and the ability to take on a project lead role, driving initiatives to successful completion and delivering measurable results

Desired:

  • Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
  • API Integration Understanding (REST, SOAP) API Management
  • Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (e.g., Citrix, AVD)
