DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for assessing, planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and revising  educational programming and activities for hospital nursing staff across campuses including new employee orientation, clinical orientation and annual education programs. Leads the implementation of programs for nursing staff development. Serves as primary nurse planner for nursing continuing educational programs. Promotes consistency of nursing policies and procedures and process improvements. Responsible for developing and ensuring an effective preceptor program. Analyzes data and directs educational activities to improve patient outcomes. Provides oversight for nursing education employees and functions, including day to day operations. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Designs and implements a hospital based rehabilitation nursing orientation and education plan according to established Madonna and professional expectations and competency requirements.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements nursing education programs that maintain or enhance patient care across campuses
  • Plans, organizes, and directs nursing education activities in concert with federal and state requirements, CARF and other regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and ensures an effective preceptor program to mentor new hires
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders for updating nursing policies and procedures utilizing evidence based practice.
  • Assists in the coordination of nursing continuing education record keeping, attendance, compliance rates and individual (personnel) education files.
  • Assists the Training Program Manager in prioritization of educational offerings for all nursing staff.
  • Responsible for supervision and effective management of Nursing Education Supervisors and Nursing Clinical Education Supervisora. Recruits and hires staff and ensures appropriate department orientation to set staff up for success. Clearly articulates expectations and monitors performance.  Provides timely feedback for improvement and engages in coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Fosters the learning and development of staff, identifying individual needs and providing developmental opportunities, assignments and training. Defines parameters and desired outcomes for employeeâ??s assigned responsibilities and allows staff latitude to complete work independently and learn from their mistakes. Devotes time to listen and provide mentoring and feedback for individual development.
  • Actively manages and effectively facilitates positive relationships between employees on the team.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, responding to requests and questions and communicating department and facility information in a timely manner. Follows up on ideas and suggestions from staff, communicating outcomes. Uses courage and tact to address concerns and difficult situations.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Patient Care and other nursing leadership and stakeholders in establishing strategic direction for nursing orientation and the nursing education plan.
  • Collaborates with Training Program manager on education development analysis tools, adult education theory and education support needed to meet the education goals of Madonna nursing staff.??????


    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess current Nebraska R.N. licensure
  • Masterâ??s degree in Nursing Education preferred
  • Five yearsâ?? experience in the delivery and management of physical medicine and rehabilitation services required
  • Teaching experience with curriculum development, classroom engagement techniques and evaluation of leaning objectives and outcomes for adult learning required
  • One year experience in a supervisory/management role required
  • CRRN required or must obtain within two years of employment
  • Must have current valid Nebraska driverâ??s license and current driverâ??s abstract reflecting a good driving record.
