Pharmacy Intern - Omaha (On Call Evenings)

The Pharmacy Intern is in training to provide dispensing, distributive, educational and clinical services. This is a training position for a pharmacy school student in good standing at an accredited College of Pharmacy.  All areas of training are subject to authentication by a licensed pharmacist and include: 1) review and interpret physician orders; 2) accurately and efficiently dispense and distribute medications; 3) provide accurate and timely drug information; 4) provide all aspects of clinical pharmacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide accurate and useful drug therapy information for physicians and nurses.
• Participate in the distributive phase of pharmacy operations.
• Interpret physician orders accurately and assess for safety and appropriateness subject to review by licensed pharmacist.
• Enter and/or verify patient medication orders accurately into the computer system to be authenticated by licensed pharmacist.
• Review patient profiles for diagnosis/allergies/ duplications/interactions.
• Dispense or check oral medications intended for inpatient consumption in a timely manner. This includes medication dispensed through Automated Dispensing Machines.
• Prepare or check intravenous medications intended for inpatient administration subject to review of licensed pharmacist.
• Prepare and dispense parenteral nutrition fluids subject to review by licensed pharmacist.
• Compound medications or treatments that are not commercially available.
• Maintain and evaluate proper inventory levels/purchasing.
• Provide patient and hospital staff education services as supervised by licensed pharmacist.
• Participate in patient education such as diabetes education, drug information/counseling, cardiac and stroke rehabilitation classes.
• Present in-services to medical, nursing or pharmacy staff when required.
• Serve on hospital committees as requested.
• Participate in community affairs that publicize the hospital's value to the community.
• Participate in Pharmacist Intervention Program.
• Participate in the adverse drug reaction-monitoring program by reporting any ADR that comes to your attention.
• Support formulary of recommended drugs.
• Monitor medication therapies identified in the Pharmacist Intervention Program as supervised by licensed pharmacist.
  QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current enrollment in an ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) accredited School of Pharmacy in a Doctor of Pharmacy Program or equivalent. Hospital experience is preferred.
• Must be registered by the State of Nebraska as a Pharmacy Intern or eligible for immediate registration prior to start date.
