Responsibilities
 

A design engineer position where the individual will provide engineering, design, analysis, estimates, and permitting for the District's Distribution System projects. Performance is measured by safety, reliability, operability, and economy of assigned projects.

1. Provides the requisite engineering, design, analysis, cost and labor estimates, and permitting for the construction of additions and modifications to the District's distribution system facilities to ensure the safe, reliable and economic delivery of electric power to meet system and customer load requirements.  
2. Participates on larger cross-functional project teams as required for large technically complex District projects. 
3. Accountable for design compliance with all applicable governmental requirements, codes, industry standards, internal procedures, reliability (NERC/MRO/SPP) standards, and internal policies. 
4. Accountable for safety, reliability, operability, and economy of assigned projects.
5. Strong customer-service focus with the ability to balance prudent design practices and customer expectations.
6. Provides technical direction and training to entry-level engineers and designers.
7. Stays abreast of the latest technological advances and provides input on emerging trends to Manager and Team.
8. Focuses on continuous improvement and development of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance; including progression towards professional engineering licensure.
 

Qualifications

 

Required: 
* Four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR Professional Engineer (PE) certificate.
* Four (4) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Special projects and committees including technical skills may be considered for experience durations. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
* Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes, which apply to their specific discipline.
* Effective oral presentation and written communications skills.   Ability to analyze data, summarize analysis and effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations. 
* A valid driver's license

Desired: 
* Structural, Civil, or Civil Construction Engineering Degree. 
* Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) certification or other relevant industry-level education / certification 
* Professional Engineer (PE) Certificate
* Familiarity and experience with IBM (Maximo), Ventyx (Asset Suite), Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), Bentley MicroStation, PeopleSoft, SharePoint, and PLS-CADD. 
* Master's degree in engineering or business.
* Demonstrated capabilities of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and presenting recommendations.
* Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook).
* Electric utility distribution design and construction exposure. 
* Understanding of NESC, OSHA, ASCE, etc. as it applies to distribution design and construction methods.
* Thorough knowledge of OPPD's T&D, Substation, and Generation system.
