Senior Distribution Engineer

Responsibilities
 

A professional engineer position who provides project management, project estimating, design engineering, permitting, analysis, and estimates for the District's distribution system projects. Performance is measured by safety, reliability, operability and economy of assigned projects.

1. Provides the requisite project management, design engineering, analysis, cost and labor estimates, permitting, analysis, estimates, for the construction of additions and modifications to the District's distribution system facilities to ensure the safe, reliable and economic transformation and delivery of electric power to meet system and customer load requirements.  
2. Participates on larger cross-functional project teams as required for large technically complex District projects. 
3. Accountable for design compliance with all applicable governmental requirements, codes, industry standards, internal procedures, reliability (NERC/MRO/SPP) standards, and internal policies. 
4. Accountable for safety, reliability, operability, and economy of assigned projects.
5. Strong customer-service focus with the ability to balance prudent design practices and customer expectations.
6. Provides Professional Engineering review and stamping where legally required.
7. Provides technical direction and training to engineers, designers, field crews, Utility Coordinators, and others.
8. Acts as a technical expert in area(s) of expertise (Standards, structural analysis, Civil design, etc.).
9. Stays abreast of the latest technological advances and provides recommendations in response to emerging trends to Manager and Team.
10. Focuses on continuous improvement and development of job-related engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
 

Qualifications

 

Required: 
* Four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. 
* Professional Engineer (PE) certificate or means for reciprocity within six months.
* Five (5) years of equivalent engineering work experience.   Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
* Effective oral presentation and written communication skills.  
* Demonstrated ability to perform complex engineering tasks and perform intricate studies, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and present recommendations.  
* Demonstrated design capability of all aspects of installations within discipline.
* Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes, which apply to their specific discipline.
* A valid driver's license.

Desired: 
* Structural, Civil, or Civil Construction Engineering Degree. 
* Familiarity and experience with IBM (Maximo), Ventyx (Asset Suite), Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), Bentley MicroStation, PeopleSoft, SharePoint, and PLS-CADD. 
* Master's degree in Engineering or Business.
* Demonstrated capabilities of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and presenting recommendations.
* Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook).
* Electric utility distribution design and construction experience. 
* Understanding and application of NESC, OSHA, ASCE, etc. as it applies to distribution design and construction methods.
* Thorough knowledge of OPPD's T&D, Substation, and Generation system.
