The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha is currently accepting applications for a faculty position in the Department of Genetic Medicine (Rank DOQ) as a Genetic Nurse Practitioner.
This role will involve direct collaboration with a medical geneticist and genetic counselor team to assess the needs of patients with genetic diseases and disorders and independently provide care to established patients with longitudinal needs, including individuals with inborn errors of metabolism. Prior experience within a genetics specialty team is not required.
Practice Responsibilities:
- Conduct physical exams and assess health status, consulting with geneticists as needed.
- Conduct comprehensive genetic and medical evaluations in an outpatient setting.
- Collaborate closely with geneticists, genetic counselors, metabolic dietitians, and specialty care nursing.
- Order, interpret, and communicate results of genetic testing and biochemical studies.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans and provide longitudinal specialty care.
- Document clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the Epic electronic health record.
- Educate patients and families regarding genetic conditions, testing options, and care plans.
- Research and review primary literature related to specific genetic diseases in the context of patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement, clinical program development, and academic activities as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA. Must maintain clinical privileges as a condition of employment.
