About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as a strategic partner and member of the President's executive team. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the vision, leadership, and execution of the company's legal strategy, overseeing all legal affairs and directing the Office of Legal Counsel. This role involves advising the President, Trustees, and other senior leaders on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to, litigation, corporate partnerships, government investigations, and intellectual property. The General Counsel will also be responsible for managing legal matters related to the company's contract operations with the Department of Energy and advising on global legal affairs. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. or other advanced degree, extensive legal expertise, and a proven track record of success in legal outcomes. They should be adept at building strong relationships, inspiring trust, and demonstrating an innovative mindset. Experience in a large, complex, research-based enterprise, particularly with government contracts and relations, is essential. The role requires a leader who can simplify processes, create sustainable solutions, and manage a complex legal budget. The General Counsel will be a key strategic advisor, capable of managing the details of complex legal matters while operating at a high level of institutional goals.
