About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as the Chief Legal Officer for the District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel in all areas of law affecting the District, including but not limited to, education, government, and public contract law. This role involves managing all legal affairs, coordinating and reviewing specialized legal services from outside counsel, and representing the District in various legal matters. The General Counsel will also be involved in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide range of legal documents, and will serve as a liaison with other governmental entities in legal affairs. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an accredited college or university and a current unrestricted license to practice law in the State of California. A strong understanding of the California Education Code, Government Code, Public Contract Code, and relevant California Code of Regulations is essential. The role requires the ability to work with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds, and experience in a similar legal capacity, particularly in an educational or public sector environment, is highly desirable. The General Counsel will also be expected to supervise a legal staff and conduct orientation and information programs for the District.
