About the Role
The Company is seeking a visionary Chair of Governors to lead and support the strategic growth of the institution. The successful candidate will play a pivotal leadership role, ensuring the proper governance of the School and securing its long-term future. This includes guiding the Governing Body in setting the School's strategic direction, overseeing performance and risk, and ensuring regulatory and legal compliance. The Chair will also be responsible for facilitating productive Governing Body meetings, building consensus, and reflecting on the Board's effectiveness in delivering the School's charitable objectives. A strong leader with a genuine passion for education, the ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience, a strong grasp of governance and compliance, and be adept at leading organizations through change. The role demands a forward-thinking individual with strong commercial acumen, capable of supporting the newly appointed Head and Bursar, and fostering a collaborative and effective Board. While a genuine interest in education is essential, prior experience in the sector is not. The Chair should be an inspiring communicator, able to connect with the School community and lead confidently into the future. Key responsibilities for the Chair of Governors at the company include maintaining the highest standards of governance, supporting and constructively challenging the Head, and ensuring that the Governors work collaboratively to support the School's strategy. The position is unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. The Chair will be expected to lead the Remuneration and Liaison Committees and will serve a five-year term, renewable at the Board's discretion.
